In net metering, your solar panel is connected to the grid. When excess electricity is generated, it goes into the grid and DISCOM gives you credit. At night or on cloudy days, you take electricity from the grid. The difference between the two is your actual bill — this reduces your electricity bill significantly.

The maximum central subsidy limit is ₹78,000 — whether you install 3 kW or 10 kW. That is why financially a 3 kW system is the most optimal. However, if you need more electricity, a larger system can be suitable as the long-term bill savings will be higher.
